Southeast Power’s Predecessor Has a Colorful History

Founded in 1959, our predecessor, Mamba Engineering Company, Inc., began a proud history as a transmission and distribution contractor in both commercial and industrial market segments. Some of our most notable earlier projects are:

The prime and subcontractor for electrical services for the construction of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom;

The prime and subcontractor for electrical services for the construction of Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center;

New constructions of water treatment plants in the state of Florida and in the country of Panama;

Electrical contractor for NASA in building of the shuttle runway lighting and various electrical construction projects for the NASA rocket launch pads;

Most notably we constructed the first ever 500kV power line for Florida Power & Light in the state of Florida.

Our Presence in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Increase Exposure

Southeast Power Corporation established a presence in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2002 to increase our exposure in the telecommunications industry. This regional division focuses on transmission line construction; telecommunication products and services; engineering, furnishing and installation of fiber optic systems deployed on electrical transmission and distribution lines; and also fiber optic splicing, testing, and characterization nationwide. This Carolina Regional Division is an exclusive representative of AFL Telecommunications for all engineering, installation, and splicing requirements.

Installing Drilled Shaft Foundations via Our Foundation Division

In May of 2009, Southeast Power Corporation added the Foundation Division. This division installs drilled shaft foundations for transmission lines, substations, and cellular tower structures nationwide. The Foundation Division works with our other Division’s offices in addition to outside customers providing complete and efficiently built projects.

Expansion of Our Geographic Footprint via Our Texas Regional Division

In 2010, Southeast Power Corporation established the Texas Regional Division office in Bastrop, TX. The opening of this office location assisted us in the further expansion of our geographic footprint and provided local support for our clients in the Southwest and Midwest. Subsequently, we were awarded a 110-mile, 345kV transmission line construction project as part of a Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) project in Texas with a total value of $104M – Southeast Power completed this project ahead of schedule.

Becoming a Wholly Owned Subsidiary of Power Corporation of America

The formation of Power Corporation of America in 2013 by The Goldfield Corporation (NYSE American) www.goldfieldcorp.com made Southeast Power Corporation a now wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Corporation of America.

Becoming Private under GridTek Utility Services

The formation of GridTek Utility Services made Southeast Power Corporation a now wholly-owned subsidiary of GridTek.

JASON SPIVEY

PRESIDENT

In June of 2017, Jason M. Spivey was appointed President of Southeast Power Corporation. Mr. Spivey has been involved in the electrical construction industry for over 30 years. Mr. Spivey started his electrical career as an Apprentice with Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) and advanced to the positions of Troubleman, Transmission Lineman, as a Certified Journeyman and Transmission Foreman. In 2010, Mr. Spivey was promoted to Transmission Line Supervisor at OUC, a position he held for 5 years. In 2015, Mr. Spivey joined Southeast Power Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of PCA, as a Project Manager for the Florida Regional Office. Mr. Spivey was promoted to Assistant Vice President of the Florida Region. Additionally, Mr. Spivey holds electrical licenses in 15 states.

TODD DAVIS

VICE PRESIDENT, TEXAS REGIONAL

Todd Davis has over 32 years of experience in the field of electrical and power line construction. In 1981, Todd began his career in the Florida Keys as an electrical apprentice and later moved on to work 16 years with Kohler Construction Company in St. Petersburg, FL. Todd advanced from an apprentice lineman to general foreman and on to a supervisor role. While employed by Kohler Construction, Todd worked on transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects. Some of his expertise and certifications include Bare Hand and Hot Stick techniques. With a highly reputable work ethic, Todd would later be named Vice President of Transpower Construction Services where he excelled for 13 years. While at Transpower he was responsible for the supervision of all field superintendents, estimating, equipment acquisition and all phases of T & D construction.

Todd began working with Southeast Power in 2013 where he worked as project manager for the Southern Division in the Florida Region. Todd was appointed to Vice President of the Texas Regional Division in 2015.

BRIAN TILTON

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, CAROLINA REGIONAL

In 1985, after serving six years in the South Carolina Army National Guard, Brian started working in production at Santee Cooper, South Carolina's largest public utility. After 18 months working in production at a coal-fired generating station, Brian started work in Santee Cooper's Construction Management Department. His work included all aspects of project management and construction oversight including substation and transmission line design, right of way clearing, foundation installation, structure erection, conductor & fiber optic wire stringing, erosion control, and safety. Brian oversaw the field oversight and inspection of numerous transmission and substation construction projects and continued working in this role until June of 2014. At that time, Brian started working as a Project Manager and was eventually promoted to Construction Manager for Southeast Power's Carolina Regional office.  In January of 2017, Brian was promoted to Vice President of Southeast Power's Carolina electrical construction operations.  As Vice President Brian continued to focus on promoting positive safety culture and building a strong diversified work force.  Under his leadership, the Carolina Region has experienced significant expansion of services in Transmission, Substation and Distribution operations.  In January 2022 Brian was promoted to Executive Vice President of the Carolina Region.

JEFF SLAYBAUGH

VICE PRESIDENT, SOUTHERN DIVISION

Jeffrey Slaybaugh, Jr. started his career in the utility industry in 1992 as a groundman at Pike Electric. For the next 30 years prior to joining Southeast Power Corporation, he worked at Lee County Cooperative in North Fort Myers, FL for 17 years. At LCEC he worked as a Distribution Lineman, Transmission Lineman, Construction Coordinator, and ended his time there as Transmission Supervisor. As a Distribution Lineman he had a major influence in starting the Transmission Department. As a member of the Transmission Department, he was instrumental in proving the need of starting a barehand / hot stick team to broaden the team’s capabilities. His roles at LCEC consisted of managing day-to-day operations of the LCEC Union employees in the Transmission Department. This included the safety meetings, the multi-million-dollar maintenance budgets as well as the transmission capital projects. Jeffrey has managed a wide array of diverse projects, several crossing into some of Florida’s most environmentally sensitive areas including Everglades National Park and Matlacha Pass Wildlife Refuge. Jeffrey came to Southeast Power Corporation as a Project Manager in 2017 and in July of 2022 was promoted to Vice President of the Southern Division in Florida.

BOBBY CLAXTON

ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT, SOUTHERN DIVISION

In August 2022 Bobby Claxton was appointed to Assistant Vice President for Southeast Power Corporation’s Southern Division. Prior to this role he served as the Assistant Vice President for Precision Foundations since June of 2020. Bobby’s career overall has kept him exclusively involved in the Power Delivery industry starting as early as 2012. Mr. Claxton brings with him a depth of understanding in overhead Transmission Lines. Mr. Claxton spent his first 6 years as a consultant engineer at Power Engineers, Inc. and Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. where he focused on designing overhead transmission lines across the country for various utilities across the US. The experience gained during his career covered various aspects of transmission line design including line rebuilds, structural design and existing capacity analysis, feasibility studies for conductor upgrades, NERC rating compliance and cellular joint use type installations. In 2018, he transitioned to the construction side of the utility industry where he began as a Project Engineer/Project manager for the Foundation Division of Southeast Power; which shortly later became Precision Foundations Inc. Bobby received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Central Florida, registered as a Florida Professional Engineer, holds General Contractors License in 3 states and a Tower Specialty license here in Florida.

SAFETY

Southeast Power Corporation is an active member and participant in the OSHA Electrical Transmission & Distribution Partnership (ET&D). The partnership is a formal collaboration of industry stakeholders, working together to improve safety for workers in the electric power line industry. The partnership is one of only a few national partnerships between employers and OSHA. The OSHA ET&D partnership goals include but are not limited to the following bullets listed below.

  • Analyze accident and incident data to identify common causes for fatalities, injuries and illnesses suffered by linemen, apprentices and other appropriate job classifications.
  • Develop recommended Best Practices for each identified cause.
  • Develop implementation strategies for each Best Practice and promote their implementation among the partners.
  • Identify training criteria for foremen, general foremen, supervisors, linemen and apprentices, including training to create an industry culture change to place value on safety and health.

At Southeast Power Corporation we are committed to our proactive approach to safety. Our Behavior Based Safety Program has produced an effective accident prevention program and has led to outstanding safety records on our projects.

Critical elements of our Behavior Based Safety Program include:

  • Executive level management and oversight of full-time safety personnel;
  • Quarterly safety committee and supervisors' meetings;
  • Certified CPR and first aid instructors;
  • OSHA 10 & 20-hour training;
  • Employee safety manuals;
  • Drug free workplace policy with documented, random substance testing;
  • Environmental health and safety program;
  • Certified testing of all insulated aerial lift devices and rubber goods;
  • Ongoing safety training for all employees.

FLEET

We Take the Care and Maintenance of Our Fleet Seriously

Southeast Power is equipped with a multitude of rolling stock, including cranes, line trucks, bucket trucks, diggers, wire pulling equipment, and trailers that can be utilized in any terrain.

At Southeast Power, we take the care and maintenance of our fleet seriously. We are committed to increasing capital budgets to upgrade our fleet of equipment.

Internal support is provided through full-service vehicle maintenance, fabrication and paint shops, specialized tool facilities, and a full fleet in-house transport operation.

Our Partnership with Caterpillar

Southeast Power Corporation is currently engaged in a partnership with Caterpillar, which helps us control our costs while utilizing the best equipment in the electrical transmission construction industry. With this partnership, Southeast Power Corporation is able to provide the finest end product to our customers. This relationship permits us to have new equipment on our projects creating a stable and safe work environment for our employees, customers, and communities we service.

At Southeast Power Corporation, our fleet equipment is the latest technology available on the market.

Maintenance Records are Kept Up to Date on All Equipment

Most of our fleet of bucket trucks, cranes, trailers, and lowboys are less than 3 years old. We take pride in the care of our fleet; maintenance records are kept up to date on all equipment and inspected by the proper agencies to ensure greater reliability and compliance.
